Cald is back - Posted Wednesday, November 16, 2005 I re-activated my account last night and began to explore the new things in DAOC. If you happen to see me around Lancelot, be sure to send a tell. With the new expansion, this site here may get a bit more active too.
Happy Adventuring!
Way cool video - Posted Saturday, October 22, 2005 Check out this Euro DAOC promo video. It's very well done.

2-Year Anniversary - Posted Monday, October 17, 2005 October 6th marked the 2-Year Anniversary of Caldsplace! The first version is long gone - perhaps stored somewhere in the deep recesses of my hard drive, which itself is stored in a facility far from where I now live. It was replaced a mere 18 days after its release with the 2nd version.
The 2nd version is still up and running for kicks, with all the content of the orignal. Most links I have found to caldsplace actually go to the 2nd version, rather than the third one here. If you want to see the 2nd version, and a history of caldsplace since it began, check it out here: The Original Caldsplace.
Mordor - Posted Tuesday, October 11, 2005 I laughed really hard when I saw this. I just had to put it up for others to see. Enjoy.

Horses, Barding, and Armor - Posted Tuesday, October 4, 2005 The Herald has just released a section which shows the horses, barding, and armor soon to be released in Darkness Rising. Take a look through this visual dictionary and see what will soon be.
Missy's Field Guide To Horses.
Mount Information - Darkness Rising - Posted Monday, October 3, 2005 I found this info at MMORPG.COM and repasted here and on Sauvage Guard's Forums. My guess is most of you know this already, but just in case there some are unaware... enjoy!
The finest steeds in the land have been culled and brought into the King’s stables. These thoroughbred mounts are hand selected as a reward to those who obtain the ranks of Champion within the King’s military. The royal stable masters also provide a wide array of services for your horse such as training, barding and other accessories. More exotic steeds are rumored to be held within the King’s service though those who seek such unusual beasts may find themselves traveling to equally unusual places to obtain them.Among all of the rewards offered by the king for obtaining champion status, personal advanced mounts may be the most sought-after by those loyal to the realm.
Two types of mounts will be offered: Standard and Advanced.Standard Mount Highlights:
- Will not require purchase of Darkness Rising expansion pack
- Obtained at level 35
- Solo quest must be completed to obtain access to NPC who sells a standard mount.
- Faster than running but slower than Advanced Mounts
- Used in PvE-only zones.
- Not customizable.
Advanced Mount Highlights:
- Will require purchase of Darkness Rising Expansion Pack
- Ability to purchase granted at level 45
- 5 types of mounts will be available including Nightmare, Unicorn, Warhorse, Undead/Phantom, and Standard Horse.
- Purchasable at vendors throughout the world and in the King’s Magery
- Faster than Standard mounts
- Can be used in PvE and in RvR
- Advanced mounts are customizable – adding saddlebags, armor, barding and the ability to name your mount are all advantages to having an advanced mount over a standard one
Standard Player Mount DetailsStandard player mounts are mounts that are available for all players regardless of their activated expansions.
How and When a Standard Mount is Obtained Players become eligible for standard mounts at level 35. Once obtaining level 35 your trainer will offer up a solo-able quest that ultimately rewards your work with access to a standard mount. This quest will not be combat-oriented, but instead be geared around explaining standard mounts usage and limitations.
Standard Mount Speed Standard mounts travel at a 35% increase over standard run speed. Grouping with a class that offers a speed enhancement greater than this will increase your speed to match that of the new buff.
Standard Mount Features Increased speed in PvE zones. These mounts also serve as a status symbol, showing your achievement of at least level 35 and completion of the quest for your mount. Practically an extension of your character, standard mounts are fun to control and even offer new emotes for your character to enjoy.
Standard Mount Restrictions Standard mounts cannot be summoned in RvR zones. No combat of any type can be performed while mounted. These mounts are not customizable.
Advanced Player Mount DetailsAdvanced player mounts are more elaborate, customizable and flashy when compared to standard mounts. Players must have the Darkness Rising expansion activated in order to have access to advanced player mounts. Additional advanced only mount emotes will be offered as well.
How and When an Advanced Player Mount is Obtained Once players have achieved level 45 they are eligible to purchase an advanced mount. Advanced player mounts can be purchased throughout the land at various locations for the price of one plat. More fantastical mounts such as the Nightmare or Undead Phantom horse require access to the King’s Magery and certain Champion Levels must first be completed.
Advanced Mount Speed Advanced mounts travel at a 50% increase over standard run speed. Grouping with a class that offers a speed enhancement greater than this will increase your speed to match that of the new buff.
NOTE: Being hit by a monster or another player in combat can causes you to be forcefully dismounted.
Advanced Mount Features Advanced mounts offer several features over and above those of standard mounts:
Travel Unlike standard mounts, advanced mounts can be summoned in the frontier zones. In order to summon your mount you must be outside of the named region for all keeps and towers.
Player Mount Interface Upon installing the boxed expansion, a new tab becomes available on your options toolbar, the Player Mount Interface screen. Similar to your player’s paper doll menu, this screen shows a paper doll of your mount, available slots such as barding and saddlebags, and the mounts name.
Customization Advanced mounts offer a certain degree of customization for their owners. Advanced mounts:
- Can be named by their owner
- Provide a horse tab in game similar to that of your character sheet.
- Can be equipped with barding. Unique designs are available and players can choose to have their guild emblem or realm emblem displayed here.
- Can be equipped with armor.
- Saddlebags can be equipped that offer additional character inventory slots.
Standard and Advanced Mount Shared CharacteristicsSprinting While Mounted Mounted players can use their endurance pool in order to sprint in the same fashion as non-mounted players. Sprinting on horseback is treated exactly like sprinting while run speed buffed.
What Areas are Restricted for Mount Usage Player mounts cannot be used in the following areas:
- Dungeons
- Cities
- Inside structures
Mounts and Water Mounts can be ridden in deep water, however players cannot go below the surface while mounted.
Darkness Rising Link - Posted Monday, October 3, 2005
I've been keeping an eye on the Darkness Rising expansion due to come out soon. There is now a link in the Official Links section of this site, to the left.
I've been thinking about returning to the gaming community again. Darkness Rising gives me more reason to want to come back. Hopefully in the next month or two I'll be playing again. In the meantime, enjoy your journeys through the realms.
Account Closed - Site Continues - Posted Monday, May 23, 2005 FYI - I canceled my DAOC Account about a month ago, but intend to keep this site up and running. There is a chance I'll return to the game. Regardless, the site should run for at least another year.
Anyone wishing to reach me can do so via email at Calderon501@hotmail.com.
Best wishes to you in your adventures through the realms of Dark Age of Camelot. I hope this site serves you well!
SG Site and Forums are up - Posted Tuesday, March 1, 2005 For those of you who frequent both here and Sauvage Guard's site... The website is back up at www.sauvageguard.com as are the Forums. If you were registered before (and even if you weren't) you have to make a new account.

Comics - Posted Thursday, February 24, 2005 Quite some time ago I created a DAOC cartoon, Weevil and the tent of West Downs. It was a big hit in our guild. Later I wrote another with a similar theme called, Chop the post down!. I have had them up at Sauvage Guard's website since their creation. Since the site is currently down and I'm not sure if it will return, I have chosen to post both comics here.
You'll find them both now in the Gallery section. I have included a brief description and history of each as well.
I hope you enjoy them.
Outdoor Adventures moved - Posted Tuesday, December 28, 2004 I've been meaning to do this for a while. I finally moved Outdoor Adventures to a sub directory on this site. It used to be on the Original Caldsplace, and had all sorts of hideous pop-ups. Those are now gone.
Now... should I make additional pages to that site with other adventures? Hmm...
Optical Illusion - Posted Monday, December 27, 2004 This is totally unrelated to Caldsplace, but still something I wanted to put out there. Click on the image and see if you can figure out which spirals are spinning, and which ones are not.

Where is Cald? - Posted Tuesday, December 21, 2004 Hey folks. I'm still around just distant lately. I still plan on doing regular updates to the site but I've been down with a bad cold lately, trying to get ready for Christmas, and also in the middle of yet another job change. I've recently been given access to several Hib glowies (thanks Keashz) and plan to bring that section up to speed in the not too distant future.
In the meantime, I still welcome suggestions for the I'm Bored section.
Thanks all, and Merry Christmas!
Forums? - Posted Friday, November 26, 2004 I've moderated a forums board before for my guild, Sauvage Guard, but I've never actually installed them onto a website... until now. I decided to see how complicated it was and have a go at it. It's up, but I'm not entirely sure it's fully working.
Have a peak at it and see if you can manage a post. I may need to adjust some settings still. I might use these as some sort of feedback forum. At any rate, it is nice to have the experience of installing them from scratch.

Glowies Galore & Archived News - Posted Sunday, November 21, 2004 I've recently gotten several more glowies for Albion and a couple for Midgard. I'm trying to get my pages updated and managed to get a few of them up. Take a look at some of these new ones, most of which are MP quality, and one which is no longer available as it came from Marfach Caverns ( the old Hibernian RvR Dungeon).
Albion
Midgard
Archived News: For those are interseted in finding past entries, I've installed a link at the bottom of the main news page called News ARCHIVES. It will show you a complete history of all archived news for Cald's place (which isn't a whole lot yet since this version just started last month ).
Featured Link: The Camelot Addict - Posted Saturday, November 20, 2004
Because we've all been there... yah you. You've thought this before.
I'm putting Camelot Addict as a featured link (which you'll find here under Fan Sites). It has several good camelot comics which are sorted by category. Additionally you'll find some leadership resources as well which you may find helpful if leading a raid, guild event, or even just a group. Have a quick look around.
Link inc. - Posted Monday, November 15, 2004 The links are undergoing a few changes. I added an official links section and put all the DAoC expansions there, plus Mythic Entertainment and the Camelot Herald. What used to be Offical links is now General links and Unique links is now more suitably called Fan Sites etc..
I'm always open to adding new links to quality sites. If you know of one worth having up here send an email to Calderon and let me know about it and why it should be here.
Thanks!
New artifacts added - Posted Wednesday, November 10, 2004 To my knowledge there were three additional artifacts added in a patch since the release of ToA. They are Gem of Lost Memories, Orion's Belt, and Unyielding Will. These artifacts have now been added to the Artifact Stories section here.
Special thanks to "Rainman" for bringing this to my attention.
New girl in the gallery - Posted Monday, November 8, 2004 There's a new girl in the gallery. Although the forest doesn't quite have the Campacoretin look, I've named it after that forest anyway. Clearly it isn't only players who favor the Axe of Malice, but mythic as well. This girl was cut-out from the offical mythic wallpapers as found on the Camelot Vault. Hope you like it! You'll find it in the Gallery here.
ALSO up today, a couple of new suggestions in the I'm Bored page. Have a look there if you haven't recently... or if you're bored.
NEW section to Cald's place! - Posted Friday, November 5, 2004 Artifacts - Stories of the Sphinxes and Scholars Stories was just added today. This is actually an import from the original Cald's Place. In Artifact Stories you'll find a collection of information originally offered by the scholars, sphinxes, and other creatures throughout Atlantis. It is full of riddles, rhymes and wonders. This is not another walk through-guide. It is rather the information as it was meant to be found to discover where artifacts are, what they might do, how one might obtain them, and to learn their story. Read through a few and find some of the richness which has been lost and reduced to simple mob slayings. You may find it quite interesting and refreshing. Learn a bit about the scholars and sphinxes as well. There is more depth than most adventurers realize.
Albion Thrust weapons up - Posted Monday, November 1, 2004 I just installed the Albion Thrust glowing weapons page. There are 18 to start with, and a few more random ones to be added soon. This page now makes 5 of 8 weapon types available here for Albion, with Staff, Pole and Flex soon to follow. Have a look, and be sure to email me if you find any missing that you have in your personal collection. Submissions always welcome.
Also worth looking at are the additional screenshots put up this weekend at Mythic's catacombs expansion pack site. You'll find some screenshots of trolls, iconnu, and other creatures and places in this latest installment of pictures.
TOA Scrolls.com link added - Posted Saturday, October 30, 2004 Taoscrolls.com first came out shortly after the release of ToA. It was right up there with visions of sages for a while, but then faded into the background a bit for a lot of DAoC gammers. It continued to grow however, has a new look now, and is constantly being updated. It offers much that visions of sages does not offer, and is certainly worth another look.
Taoscrolls.com is a great place to look for hard-to-find scrolls, or to sell your own scrolls. It is first and foremost a place for people to buy and sell scrolls. But more than that, there are now ML walk throughs, TOA Quests, a thorough and easily searchable TOA Weapons, armor and accessories section as well. The downside is there is a nominal fee to use this site, however that is easily waved with 2 simple submissions of virtually anything ToA that they don't already have. Check it out!
New Screenshots for Catacombs expansion pack - Posted Friday, October 29, 2004 I put this up on my guild website, but for those who don't frequent sauvageguard.com I'm setting a link up here.
The Catacombs expansion site has posted some new screenshots from Catacombs which give you a visual on how indivual characters can be fine tuned to your personal preference. Face, eyes, nose, lips, jaw, skin color, eye color, hair style, and hair color are all adjustable. Have closer look at some of the different races with these new screenshots, and get an idea of what more of the new environments will look like.
Albion Crush page added - Posted Thursday, October 28, 2004 Slowly but surely my collection is being entered. I've just added an Albion Crush page to the glowing weapons section. A couple of these are MP, one suitable for a cleric, the other for a merc. I have several more to enter, but it's a good start.
I've also added more to the Albion Slash page, and more MP ones are still on the way. Rumor has it that the Hibernia collection will soon start forming too.
Don't mind the dots - Posted Tuesday, October 26, 2004 If you happen into the glowing weapon section you may notice a lot of colored dots ( ) there that weren't before. I'm testing a rating system to show at a glace the quality of a weapon similar to the daoc con system. If I choose to keep it you'll soon see a legend posted showing which each color means specifically. The down side of basing it on quality alone is that it does not show weapon DPS, which is huge. I could include both weapon dps and quality in the list, but I'm not sure I want to go that route.
I should have something worked out by the end of the week. In the mind time... don't mind the dots.
And now... the gallery again - Posted Saturday, October 23, 2004 Can you tell where I like to spend my time on the site? I liked Forest Light so much I decided to make two more, one for each other realm: Barrows, and Defending Home. Have a look in the Gallery once more for these new pics, and a framed version of Defending Home.
Let me know what you think. Thanks!
The Collection grows - Posted Saturday, October 23, 2004 Slowly but surely the glowing weapons collection is expanding. I've completed putting in all my personal Two-handed weapons and some shields as well. There are several ToA shields that glow that haven't been included yet because they are ROG.
You'll also find I have added a couple more to the Swords for Migdard.
And finally I have fixed a few formatting errors with the page that most probably didn't even notice. If you experience any problems with the site, please let me know.
Glowies and Gallery - Posted Tuesday, October 19, 2004 I have officially "launched" the Glowing Weapons page, although it is closer to barely started than nearly completed. In it you'll find most of Albion's Slash weapons... and that's about it for now. I'll be adding to it as submissions come in, and I complete inputing my own personal collection.
I also added a new picture to the gallery called Forest Light. The hardest thing for me with these blended photo-screenshot images is whether to leave them photo-like, or texturize them as I have others. I chose to leave it photo-like for now. Let me know what you think.
The Glowies - Posted Friday, October 15, 2004 Yeah, I collect them. I've always wanted a nice catalog of all glowing weapons and have yet to see a really good one. I've been toying with the idea of having a glowing weapon section on my site forever. Have a look at my sample page. It may change from time to time, but here is what I have so far: Glowies.
Again, it is just a sample page. If I actually go through with the effort of cataloging them all, I plan to organize them by Realm and type.
A few new pics - Posted Wednesday, October 13, 2004 Nothing major today, but I added a few more pictures to the gallery. Like the others, these are screen shots edited in either adobe photoshop, or adobe photo deluxe.
For the curious one, the photo used in Catacombs was taken at Lava beds national forest when I was there in the summer of 2004. Reflection is from a photo I took in Yosemite national forest in May of 2003. For more pictures and info on that trip, see my Outdoor Adventures page. The Scout picture was from some basic background/desktop image.
Three new things to do when you're bored - Posted Monday, October 11, 2004 I have a lot of ideas for this section and will continue to add them as time permits. I just put in 3 new suggestions into the I'm bored page. They are, Go on a Quest, Darkness Falls Prince Raid, and Barfog Run. Have a look at the write-ups and see if any of them interest you.
Newspro kinks worked out - and check out the dyes! - Posted Monday, October 11, 2004 I managed to work out the kinks in Newspro and got all the pages formatted as I had hoped. This means I can easily add news here, and also change a single file now which affects all pages... so if I want to add a new link on the left, I only edit one file, not every page on this site. (this makes Cald very happy)
Also, be sure to check out the Unique Dyes section here if you haven't already.
TESTING SITE - Posted Sunday, October 10, 2004 Hey there. if you found this site, then congratulations. It is new and under construction, and you are one of the very few to stumble across this new domain.
Currently I am working with a program called Newspro to enter in regular updates, as well as provide a flexible programming structure for the site. The Good News is that NewsPro is finally working! Yeah!! The Bad News is that until I restructure the site, most some internal links won't work (like trying to find this home page again if you go anywhere else in the site). I hope to get things running smoothly within the next day or two.
Thanks for your patience.
Test news - Posted Sunday, October 10, 2004 this is my first news test entry.
